The unique 888m dash for Lunar New Year and SPEIR (1) gets the nod. He's shown plenty of ability in three career runs to date, winning his past two comfortably over 1000m at Mornington and Cranbourne, leading throughout in both. There'll be speed on everywhere here but he's quick enough to land in the first couple and simply prove too good for these. FILEETA (5) struggled over 955m here last time but did run second over the route two back when leading for a long way. A repeat of that effort sees her in the finish. BAGGAGE HANDLER (2) is a lightly raced four-year-old who resumed with a soft win at Albury over 1000m as a $1.70 favourite. He's relatively promising and can measure up. PANO'S PRIDE (6) is a consistent sprinter who can be staying on strongly late if they overdo it early. ESPRIT SPIRIT (11) resumes and did win her only other fresh run to date.
