SOUTH POLE (7) raced on the speed and did a good job to hold on for third when returning from an 11-month spell over 1400m at Warrnambool last start. Four winners have come from that maiden to add merit to the performance. Strips fitter and will take a power of beating. TIGHT GRIP (14) has settled near the tail and failed to make an impression in his two runs this time in work. Needs this extra trip so it will be no surprise to see some improvement. AMERICAN RUSS (1) was six weeks between runs when midfield over 1300m at Swan Hill recently. Yet to salute in thirty appearances which sounds alarm bells, but with added fitness he is a top three chance. SHE MOGUL (10) was fair on debut at Mornington a fortnight ago and should enjoy this longer journey. KEIROSS KING (3) just missed when resuming at Mildura last start. Tougher this time but worth including in exotics.
