TOP OF THE CLASS had little chance the way the race unfolded when sent off favourite at Wolverhampton last month but, granted a strong pace to aim at, Mark Loughnane's dual C&D winner remains one to be interested in. She gets the vote over Pursuit of Truth, who is low mileage for his age and returns after 4 months off for a new yard. Timetobenice and Laser Focus can fight out minor honours.

Three wins from 12 runs last year. Won twice over hurdles in November but bit below that level when third of 7 in novice claiming hurdle at Ludlow (15.8f, soft, 5/2) the following month. This trip looks well short of his optimum so others more appealing returning from a break.

Possibly found the race coming too soon when sixth of 11 in handicap (5/2) at Newcastle (8f) back in October, staying on after hampered briefly 3f out. Sold from Owen Burrows 17,000 gns later that month and not seen since. One to consider for his new yard.

C&D winner. Two wins from 6 runs last year, latest here in August. 9/4, third of 5 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 30 days ago, ideally needing stronger gallop. Shortlist material granted a good pace to aim at.

Failed to come on for recent run when sixth of 8 in handicap at Southwell (8.1f, 11/2) 12 days ago. Handicapper drops him 3 lb but need to show more before becoming of interest.

    Verdict
C&D winner who notched his seventh career victory in 6-runner handicap (6/1) at Chelmsford City (8f) just under 6 weeks ago, holding on under largely hands-and-heels riding. Handicapper nudges him up just 2 lb but he's not an obvious one to follow up (inconsistent).

    Verdict
Course winner. Two wins from 6 runs last year. 18/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, made more impact than previously this year when third of 8 in handicap at Southwell (8.1f) 12 days ago. His task is now to build on that but may prove vulnerable to younger legs.

    Verdict
Too free when well-beaten tenth of 11 on handicap debut at Bath (8f, soft, 125/1) 4 months ago. First run for yard after leaving Mark Gillard and he looks an easy swerve.
