Mac Installation or Update Issue: Error -2/1000

How do I fix error -2/1000 during installation or update?

Reinstalling the software often fixes error -2/1000. When you reinstall, you may see a prompt asking for your Mac's admin username and password.

To reinstall:

  1. Download the latest version of the software from our website.
  2. Run the installer.
  3. When prompted, enter your Mac's admin username and password (not your account login details).
  4. Wait for the installation to complete.

If reinstalling doesn't fix the error, proceed to the next step.

Do I have admin rights on my Mac?

You need admin rights to install or update the software. You can verify your admin status in 'System Preferences'.

To check if your Mac account has admin rights:

  1. Open the 'Apple' menu.
  2. Choose 'System Preferences'.
  3. Press the 'Accounts' icon.
  4. Find your account in the list on the left side of the 'Accounts' window.

If the word Admin appears below your account name, you are an administrator on this Mac. If you don't have admin rights, contact the person who set up your Mac.

How do I enable the helper tool?

If reinstalling didn't work, the helper tool may be disabled. You can enable it using 'Terminal'.

To enable the helper tool:

  1. Open 'Terminal'. You can do this by opening the 'Applications' folder, then 'Utilities', and double-clicking 'Terminal'. Alternatively, press Command + Space to open Spotlight, type "Terminal", and double-click the search result.
  2. Run this command to check if the helper tool is disabled:
    more /private/var/db/com.apple.xpc.launchd/disabled.plist | grep com/starstechnologies.updater
  3. If the Terminal displays <key>com.starstechnologies.updater</key>, the helper tool is disabled. Re-enable it using this command:
    sudo launchctl enable system/com.starstechnologies.updater
  4. Close 'Terminal' and try installing or updating the software again.

If enabling the helper tool doesn't fix the error, proceed to the next step.

What do I do if the error -2/1000 persists?

If Steps 1 and 2 didn't fix the error, the software may lack the required file permissions. Our software needs 'read', 'write', and 'execute' permissions to run.

To verify the software has correct permissions:

  1. Confirm the software is installed in the default location: the 'Applications' folder.
  2. Open 'Terminal'.
  3. Run this command:
    ls -la /Applications
  4. Take a screenshot of the results.
  5. Send the screenshot to our support team, and we will investigate further.
